Early Life and Career

Goldie Jeanne Hawn was born on November 21, 1945, in Washington, D.C., to musician Edward Rutledge Hawn and Laura Hawn, a jewelry store and dance studio owner. Of German, English, and Jewish descent, Hawn began dancing at age three after her mother enrolled her in classes. By the age of ten, she had performed in "The Nutcracker."

In 1961, Hawn made her theatrical debut at the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, playing Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet." After her expulsion from the American University's drama program in 1964, she focused on ballet, both as a student and a teacher. In 1965, she garnered attention as a can-can dancer at the New York World's Fair, leading to an invitation to join a burlesque show.

Hawn later moved to New York, performing as a dancer while attempting to break into television. She landed her first major role on the short-lived sitcom "Good Morning, World" (1967) and joined the cast of the sketch comedy series "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" (1968-1970).

Breakthrough

Hawn's breakthrough role came in the film "Cactus Flower" (1969), for which she won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. Her success continued with "There's a Girl in My Soup" (1970), "Dollars" (1971), "Butterflies Are Free" (1972), "The Sugarland Express" (1974), and "Shampoo" (1975).

Personal Life and Career Progression

Hawn married dancer, actor, and director Gus Trikonis in 1969. They divorced in 1976. She had brief relationships with stuntman Ted Grossman and Swedish actor Bruno Wintzell before meeting musician Bill Hudson in 1975. They married in 1976 and had two children, Oliver and Kate. They divorced in 1982.

Hawn began dating her longtime friend, actor Kurt Russell, in 1983. They have one son together, Wyatt. Russell also has a son, Boston, from his first marriage, whom Hawn considers her stepson. Oliver and Kate Hudson have since pursued acting careers.

Hawn's successful film career continued with "Private Benjamin" (1980), "Best Friends" (1982), "Overboard" (1987), "Bird on a Wire" (1990), "Deceived" (1991), "The HouseSitter" (1992), "Death Becomes Her" (1992), "The First Wives Club" (1996), "Everyone Says I Love You" (1996), "The Out-of-Towners" (1999), and "The Banger Sisters" (2002).

Recent Years

Hawn's last major film role was in "Snatched" (2017). She made her voice acting debut in "Phineas and Ferb" (2013) and reprised her role as Mrs. Claus in "The Christmas Chronicles" films (2018 and 2020).

Despite receiving negative critical and commercial reception for "Snatched," Hawn continues to inspire audiences with her comedic prowess. While she may not make headlines on a daily basis, her enduring talent ensures her place in the annals of cinema history.
