Early Career and Domestic Success
Serghei Cleșcenco began his footballing journey as a trainee at Zimbru, a renowned Moldovan club. From 1992 to 2000, he played in the Moldovan Championship for Construcțorul, Agro Chișinău, and Zimbru.
International Debut and European Ventures
In 1996, Cleșcenco earned his first call-up to the Moldovan national team. He went on to represent his country 46 times, scoring 3 goals. Concurrently, he ventured into Europe, playing for Samsunspor and Istanbulspor in Turkey during the 2000-2001 season.
Russian and Ukrainian Stints
In 2002-2003, Cleșcenco joined Saratov's Sokol in the Russian Championship. However, he struggled to find his feet due to illness. He then moved to Ukraine in 2004, signing for Vorskla Poltava and later Krivbas Kryvyi Rih in 2006.
Return to Moldova and Kazakh Adventure
In 2007, Cleșcenco returned to Moldova to play for Nistru Otaci, reaching the final of the Moldovan Cup in 2009. In the same year, he ventured into Kazakhstan, joining FC Taraz, which had recently returned to the Premier League. He made a significant impact, scoring 7 goals in 25 appearances.
Belarusian Sojourn and Retirement
Cleșcenco's final club was FC Neman Grodno in Belarus, where he joined in 2010. After only 4 games, he left the club and retired from professional football.
Post-Retirement
Cleșcenco currently serves as the head coach of the Moldovan U-16 national team. He was recognized as Moldova's Footballer of the Year in 1999, a testament to his exceptional talent and contributions to the sport in his home country.
