Sergei Filin

Sergei Yuryevich Filin was born on October 27, 1970, in Moscow, Russia. He began dancing at the age of seven in the Loktev Ensemble. Filin danced there for two years, during which time he appeared in the film "Sun in a Basket."

Training and Early Career

Filin's professional ballet career began after teachers from the Moscow Choreographic School noticed him and encouraged his mother to pursue his dance training seriously. Filin enrolled in the Moscow Choreographic School and studied under Natalia Yashenkova in his early years and Alexander Prokofiev in his graduating class. Yuri Klevtsov was among his classmates. Filin graduated from the school in 1988 and was accepted into the Bolshoi Ballet. His педагоgue-reпетитор was Nikolay Fadeechev, and he also worked with Marina Semyonova and Nikolay Simachev.

Recognition and Awards

Filin is a People's Artist of the Russian Federation. He won the "Benois de la Danse" prize in 1994 for his performance in "The Sleeping Beauty." In 2002, he received the "Duša tanca" ("Soul of Dance") prize from the magazine "Ballet" in the category "Star of Dance."
