Biography of Sergey Kunitsyn
Sergey Kunitsyn is a former governor of Sevastopol and an advisor to the head of Zelensky's office. He has held various positions throughout his career, including chairman of the Sevastopol City State Administration, former prime minister of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and member of the Ukrainian Parliament from 1990 to 1994. Kunitsyn is also a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology and holds a candidate's degree in economics.
Early Life and Education
Sergey Kunitsyn completed his education at the Simferopol branch of the Dnipropetrovsk Engineering and Construction Institute in 1982, specializing in the production of construction products and structures. After graduation, he started his career as a pipe layer and later became a master of the molding workshop at the Tyumen DSC plant.
Career
Kunitsyn served in the Soviet Army from 1983 to 1984 and participated in military operations in Afghanistan. After his military service, he worked as an engineer-technologist, senior engineer for labor protection and safety, chief engineer of a reinforced concrete products plant, and chief engineer of the Perekop PTX company. In April 1990, he became the chairman of the Krasnoperekopsk City Council of People's Deputies. From December 1990 to May 1998, he held the position of chairman of the Krasnoperekopsk City Council and the executive committee. During this time, he also led the group for the creation of the Perekop Free Economic Zone. From June 1996 to April 2010, he served as the head of the Sevastopol City State Administration, and from April to October 2010, he was the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. In November 2010, he became a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Political Career
In addition to his administrative roles, Sergey Kunitsyn has held various positions within political parties. He was the chairman of the "Union in Support of the Republic of Crimea" party from 1993 to 1997 and the first deputy chairman of the People's Democratic Party from March 2005 to June 2008. He has also served as the chairman of the Crimean Republican Organization of the People's Democratic Party from 1997 to 2008 and as the deputy chairman of the "Unified Center" party from 2008 to 2009. Kunitsyn has been a member of the Ukrainian Union of Afghan Veterans since 2004 and has served as the chairman of its Crimean Regional Organization.
Awards and Honors
Throughout his career, Sergey Kunitsyn has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions. He has been awarded the Order "For Merit" of the first, second, and third degrees, as well as various medals, including the "For Combat Merit," "From the Grateful Afghan People," and "70 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" medals. He has also been recognized with the honorary sign "Internationalist Warrior" from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the honorary sign "For Loyalty to Duty" from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and the letter of commendation from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. In 1999, he received the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for his work on the technology and equipment for the production of calcined salt and the establishment of an industrial complex at the Crimean Soda Plant. Additionally, he was awarded the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh of the third degree by the Russian Orthodox Church in 2010.
Other Roles
Apart from his political and administrative responsibilities, Sergey Kunitsyn has also been involved in sports. He has served as the president of the Tavria Sports Club.
