Early Life and Education

The Armenian-born vocalist, keyboardist, and percussionist Sergei Manukyan began his musical journey in 1975 after graduating from the Grozny Music School with a focus on percussion.

Professional Career

1967-1980: Early Performances and International Recognition

Manukyan's professional career commenced in 1967 as a member of a professional orchestra in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. He also performed as a soloist and with various ensembles. After relocating to Gorky, he joined pianist Alexander Shishkin's quartet as a percussionist and vocalist. His participation in the first international vocal competition in Poland earned him an award and international recognition.

1980-1989: Collaborations and Festival Appearances

In the early 1980s, Manukyan moved to Estonia and became a prominent member of the jazz-rock band "Avicenna" in Tallinn. In 1985, he relocated to Moscow and collaborated with Anatoly Kroll's big band. In 1986, he participated in the "Jazz Panorama. Yerevan 86" festival as part of the Grozny jazz ensemble "Okean."

1989-1990: International Collaborations and Solo Performances

International recognition and collaborations came in 1989 when Manukyan worked with Richard Elliott at Warner Brothers Studios and received an offer from Capitol Studios to record an album. He also participated in the Soviet-American project "Music Speaks Louder Than Words" alongside renowned artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Michael Bolton, and Earth, Wind & Fire. In 1990, he embarked on solo vocal performances.

Later Career and Honors

1991-Present: Collaborations and Foundation

Depuis 1991, Manukyan has resided and worked in Moscow. He has collaborated with composer and guitarist Igor Boyko and singer Lyudmila Sokolova, performing in joint concerts and inviting them to participate in his solo album recordings. In 2005, he established the Sergei Manukyan Foundation for the Development of Jazz Art.

2018: Participation in "The Voice. 60+"

In 2018, Manukyan took part in the television show "The Voice. 60+" showcasing his exceptional vocal talent.
