Biography of Yvonne Prène
Yvonne Prène, born on January 19, 1984, in Paris, France, is a musician who plays the harmonica. Known as the musician of the future, a true harmonica player, extraordinary, and even deadly, Yvonne Prène has made a name for himself in the music world.
Early Life and Musical Education
Prène began his musical journey by learning to play the diatonic harmonica with Jean-Jacques Miltou, a legendary jazz and blues musician who performed from Paris to Shanghai. After jazz lessons, Prène joined the famous "Marine Band Club" group from the Utopia Jazz Club in Paris. He also learned from Sebastian Charlier and Greg Zlap before switching to the chromatic scale at the age of seventeen.
During his teenage years, Prène studied jazz music in various schools and private institutions with David Patrou, Olivier Kerr Uriot, Philippe Lemoine, and many others. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Sorbonne University in Paris and received a scholarship to study at City College in New York and Columbia University. Prène was fortunate to be mentored by American saxophonist Lee Konitz, as well as Kevin Hays, Ben Street, and Jerome Sabbagh. He also studied under renowned jazz bassist and bass guitarist John Patitucci, along with Mike Holober, Gerald Cleaver, Fred Hersch, John Gordon, Ben Waltzer, and others.
Musical Career
In 2008, Prène participated in the recording of French jazz trumpeter Alexandre Tassel's album "Movments." That same year, the skillful harmonica player collaborated with Rebecca Vallejo, who blends flamenco, jazz, and Brazilian music. Together, they worked on the "Euro Latin Jazz Project."
Finally, in 2009, Yvonne Prène released his album "Introducing," featuring nine compositions. Every track on the album captivates listeners, whether it's the approximately five-minute-long "Elise's Waffles alt" or the over eight-minute-long "Invitation alt."
Throughout his musical journey, Prène has crossed paths and collaborated with great artists such as Manu Pecar, Jerome Regard, Alexandre Saada, Romain Pilon, Laurent de Wilde, Rebecca Vallejo, Christian Brun, Da Romeo, Christian Brenner, Harry Miller, and more.
Recognition and Present Day
Legendary jazz artist Lee Konitz praised Prène's talent, saying, "(It's) the most beautiful music I've ever heard on the harmonica." Currently, Yvonne Prène resides in New York City, continuing to pursue his musical career.
