Early Life and Education
Serhii Pashynskyi was born in Kyiv, Ukraine on May 18, 1966. In 1991, he graduated from the Kyiv Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorky with a degree in history and social studies teaching.
Early Career
After completing his education, Pashynskyi worked briefly as a teacher before venturing into small and medium-sized businesses. Until 1999, he held various positions in commercial structures. According to the Central Election Commission, at the time of the 1998 parliamentary elections, he was the president of "Trading House of Bank Ukraine" CJSC. From 1999 to 2000, he served as the deputy chairman of the board of Oschadbank.
Political Career
Early Political InvolvementPashynskyi first attempted to enter politics in the 2002 parliamentary elections, running with the "Against All" political party bloc but withdrew his candidacy. He subsequently served as an advisor to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko from February to August 2005. Concurrently, he held the position of deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the "State Mortgage Institution" from May 2005 to July 2006.
Member of Parliament
In the 2006 parliamentary elections, Pashynskyi was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) as a member of Yulia Tymoshenko's Bloc, serving until June 2007. He was re-elected in the 2007, 2012, and 2014 parliamentary elections, each time representing different political parties.
During his tenure in the Verkhovna Rada, Pashynskyi held various leadership positions, including chairman of the Subcommittee on Industry Development Strategy and Investments of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy, and Nuclear Safety; deputy chairman of the Batkivschyna faction; and head of the Committee on National Security and Defense.
Role in Euromaidan
Pashynskyi played an active role in coordinating protests during the Euromaidan revolution in late 2013 and early 2014. His involvement resulted in the seizure of his assets by the authorities, an action that was later overturned.
Head of the Presidential Administration
On March 5, 2014, Pashynskyi was appointed acting head of the Presidential Administration under the interim presidency of Oleksandr Turchynov. He held the position until June 10, 2014, when he resigned after the election of Petro Poroshenko as president.
People's Front
In 2014, Pashynskyi joined the People's Front party, founded by Arseniy Yatsenyuk and other former members of Batkivschyna. He played a key role in coalition negotiations following the 2014 parliamentary elections and represented the People's Front in talks with the Petro Poroshenko Bloc and Self-Help parties.
Accusations of Embezzlement
In 2002, Pashynskyi was accused of embezzling $4 million from Oschadbank and committing fraudulent transactions while seeking loans from other banks. He was arrested but later released on bail. The charges were dropped in 2004 due to a change in the political climate.
Personal Life
Pashynskyi is married and has two sons. His elder son, Anton, is a graduate of the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman and a veteran of the Ukrainian National Guard. He currently holds a leadership position at Ukroboronprom, a state-owned defense conglomerate.
