Sergo Yeritsyan
ArmeniaEarly Life and Education
Born in Armenia, the prominent public and political figure began his career in 1974 as an employee and subsequently became the First Secretary of the Leninist Communist Youth Union (LKS) at the Chockan sovhoz. In 1975, he enrolled at Yerevan State University, pursuing a degree in journalism from its philology faculty. He continued his studies at Moscow State University, where he earned a degree in journalism and a PhD in philology from the faculty of journalism.
Media Career
In 1981, he took on the role of editor of the Propaganda Department at the Armenian State Television and Radio. Concurrently, he pursued doctoral studies at Moscow State University from 1984 to 1987. From 1987 to 1991, he became the Head of the Sociology Department at the Armenian State Television and Radio.
In 1991, he left the broadcasting industry to become the chief editor of the Center for Public Opinion Studies, a position he held until 1999. During this period, he hosted and produced various television and radio programs, including "Vzglyad v Proshloe" (A Look into the Past) on Erevan TV and "Mnenie" (Opinion) on Armenian Public Radio.
Political Involvement
In 1998, he joined the "Orinats Yerkir" party as a member of its political council, later becoming its deputy chairman in 2002. He served as a deputy in the Armenian parliament from 1995 to 1999 and again from 1999 to 2003, where he was a member of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Affairs.
Ministerial and Advisory Roles
From 2003 to 2006, he served as Armenia's Minister of Education and Science. He then became an advisor to the President of Armenia from 2006 to 2008. Since 2010, he has led the State Language Inspectorate of Armenia.
