Sergio Roberto Livingstone was a Chilean football player and is considered the best goalkeeper in the history of Chilean football. He was born on June 26, 1920, in Santiago, Chile.

Club Career

Livingstone spent almost his entire career playing for the club "Universidad Católica." However, in the 1943/1944 season, he joined the Argentine football powerhouse, "Racing Club" from Avellaneda. His transfer to Racing Club set a record at the time, with a transfer fee of 280,000 pesos. Livingstone made his debut for Racing Club in a match against Boca Juniors, which attracted an impressive crowd of 50,000 spectators. Despite the attention and success, he decided to return to his homeland after the season, as he missed his family, loved ones, and the city of Santiago.

International Career

Livingstone represented the Chilean national team in 52 matches between 1941 and 1954. He participated in the 1950 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil. He also played in 34 matches in the Copa America, then known as the South American Championship. Livingstone's performances in this tournament made him notable throughout the football community in the continent. He led the Chilean national team to several medals in the competition. His 52 international appearances were remarkable for the mid-20th century, considering that the international calendar was not as packed as it is in modern football.
