Birth and Early Life

Severino Ferreira de Araújo was born into a musical family, where he inherited his love for music from his father, who led a local band. From an early age, Araújo began studying music with his father alongside his three younger brothers, who would later join him in the "Orquestra Tabajara."

Musical Education and Career

At the age of eight, Araújo assisted his father in the orchestra, and by the age of 12, he had become a skilled clarinet player. In 1937, Araújo joined the "Banda de Música da Polícia Militar da Paraiba" as a clarinetist. He later joined the "Orquestra Tabajara," a small brass band, and upon the sudden death of its leader in 1938, Araújo took over as conductor.

Military Service and Popularity

In 1943, Araújo was conscripted into military service and spent a year in a remote area. During this time, he composed "Um Chorinho em Aldeia," the first of his many popular melodies. Upon his return from the army, Araújo recorded his first clarinet solos and signed a contract with Radio Nacional in Rio de Janeiro.

Legacy as Leader of "Orquestra Tabajara"

As the permanent leader of the "Orquestra Tabajara," Araújo recorded over 100 records featuring Brazilian traditional music, such as samba and choro, as well as Big Band classics. His leadership and dedication to the band became synonymous with the group's success.
