Shalom Brune-Franklin: A Rising Star in British and Australian Cinema

Early Life and Education

Shalom Brune-Franklin was born on August 18, 1994, in St. Albans, England. With a Mauritian mother and an English-Thai father, Brune-Franklin possesses an exotic beauty that sets her apart. As a young girl, she excelled in sports, captaining her school's netball and basketball teams and engaging in gymnastics and cheerleading. She also pursued track and field, with aspirations to compete in the London Olympics.

Brune-Franklin's life took a pivotal turn at age 14 when her family relocated to Australia from their cramped flat to a beachfront home. She now holds dual British and Australian citizenship. In high school, she struggled with mathematics, leading her teacher to suggest she choose between chemistry, biology, physics, or drama. Opting for the perceived ease of drama, Brune-Franklin discovered her true calling. She won a school award for her acting talent but initially dismissed it as a serious career path and pursued journalism at Edith Cowan University.

However, she was forced to drop out due to the exorbitant costs of securing Australian citizenship. In 2013, she auditioned and was accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Film and Television Career

Brune-Franklin made her acting debut while still a student. She was fortunate to receive contracts despite the low chances of newcomers securing work in the film industry. She starred in several short films, had a notable role in the television series "Doctor Doctor," and a guest appearance in the four-part drama "Barracuda." She also made brief cameos in the feature-length thriller "Other Life" and the superhero fantasy "Thor: Ragnarok."

After being offered work in the United Kingdom, Brune-Franklin moved back to her roots and lived with her grandparents, marking the beginning of her dual-country residence and career.

Recent Projects

Brune-Franklin has since focused primarily on television series, joining the main cast of the military drama "Our Girl" in its third season. She also took on the lead role in the miniseries "Bad Mothers' Club," about a group of girlfriends seeking revenge.

In 2020, she voiced a character in the animated series "Moominvalley" and played supporting roles in the fantasy adventure "Cursed" and the thriller "The Dry." The following year, she made significant appearances in "Line of Duty," "War of the Worlds," and "Love Me."

2022 marked the release of the drama series "The Tourist," in which she played the enigmatic waitress Lucy who helps a man (Jamie Dornan) with amnesia piece together his past.

Personal Life

During the filming of "Doctor Doctor," Brune-Franklin met Australian producer Scott Foldaway. They dated for several years, with Brune-Franklin noting that long-distance relationships can work with the right person. As of 2023, she has removed references to her personal life from her social media accounts.

Current Projects

In 2023, Brune-Franklin starred in the miniseries "Great Expectations," based on Charles Dickens' novel. She also has a regular role in the series "Dune: The Sisterhood," a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's feature film "Dune."
