Biography of Sharon Bezali

Sharon Bezali, a Swedish flutist originally from Israel, is known for her virtuosity comparable to renowned musicians such as David Oistrakh and Vladimir Horowitz. She rose to international stardom in 1977, embarking on a solo career as a flutist. Her flute, made by the Japanese company 'Muramatsu Flutes', is crafted from 24-carat gold.

Early Life and Education

Sharon Bezali was born in Israel in 1972. She studied under French flutists Alain Marion and Raymond Guiot. Bezali graduated from the Paris Conservatory of Music and Dance, where she honed her skills. At the age of 14, she made her professional debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Indian maestro Zubin Mehta.

Orchestral Career and Solo Success

Responding to an invitation from Sándor Végh, Bezali joined the Camerata Academica Salzburg as the principal flutist. However, after Végh's passing, she focused on her solo career. Bezali has performed with leading symphony and chamber orchestras in Japan, China, Israel, Central and Western Europe, England, North and South America, Australia, and Scandinavia. She has graced prestigious concert halls such as the Vienna Musikverein, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and various festivals alongside the Bartók Quartet under the baton of Latvian conductor Gidon Kremer.

Recognition and Personal Life

In May 2006, Bezali collaborated with Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra, performing at the Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She obtained Swedish citizenship in 2005. Bezali is married to Robert von Bahr, the director of the recording company 'BIS'. Together, they have released 24 albums under the 'BIS' label, including the complete flute concertos of Mozart in 2008. In 2003, Bezali was named 'Young Artist of the Year' at the Cannes Classical Awards ceremony in Cannes.
