Biography of Sharon Horgan
Sharon Horgan, an Irish actress, writer, and comedian, was born on April 4, 1970, in London, and moved to Dublin at the age of seven. She grew up in Meath, Ireland. Horgan attended Sacred Heart Secondary School in Drogheda and later earned a degree in English Language from Brunel University.
Comedy Career
Horgan's comedy career began with the 'BBC New Comedy' award in 2001, which she won alongside Dennis Kelly for their unique sketch writing. She wrote scripts for comedy shows such as 'The Pilot Show' and the early episodes of 'The Friday Night Project'. As an actress, Horgan appeared in TV series such as 'Absolute Power', 'Broken News', 'Comedy Showcase', and 'Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive'. She played the role of Beth in the romantic comedy 'Imagine Me and You' and voiced a character in the animated film 'Valiant'. Horgan also made her mark in numerous comedy shows, including being a writer for the acclaimed animated sketch show 'Monkey Dust'. Her own BBC project, the sitcom 'Pulling', was co-written with Dennis Kelly and was nominated for a BAFTA award in the category of Best Sitcom. She wrote and starred in 'Angelo's', a six-part sitcom that aired on Channel Five in late 2007. Horgan won the 'British Comedy Award' for Best Television Comedy Actress on December 6, 2008. Dead Boss
Horgan became one of the writers and actors for the new British sitcom 'Dead Boss', the first of its six episodes airing on June 16, 2012, on BBC Three. This dark comedy focuses on Helen (played by Horgan), who is wrongfully imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit. Driven by her optimism, Helen strives to secure her freedom, unaware that her friends and allies on the outside have conspired to keep her incarcerated for their own gain. Horgan described 'Dead Boss' as the most challenging project she had ever done, stating that it was far darker than her previous work.
Collaboration and Personal Life
Horgan has always had a comedic affinity for Julia Davis, rather than Olivia Colman, among her colleagues. Davis gained attention for her series 'Nighty Night' about a narcissistic and sociopathic 27-year-old beautician named Jill Tyrell, who deep down desires to be loved but not by her terminally ill husband. Interestingly, Horgan, Davis, and Colman are set to collaborate on the parody series 'Bad Sugar', with a pilot episode scheduled to air on Channel 4 in late 2012. Sharon is married to Jeremy Rainbird, the CEO of the advertising agency 'Addiction Worldwide', and they have two daughters. Her younger brother, Shane, is a well-known rugby player for the Irish national team.
