Iqbal Amin was born on July 8, 1988, in London to a Pakistani-Scottish family. His upbringing in poverty instilled in him a determination to pursue a career in acting as a means to break free from his circumstances. Adopting the stage name Shazad Latif, he honed his craft at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Despite initially planning to dedicate himself to the theater, Latif abandoned his studies a year before graduation after being offered his debut film role.

Film and Television Debut

Latif's debut project was the series "Spooks," where he played a tech prodigy despite being a technophobe in real life. Despite the promising start, Latif endured several years of minor roles, including a brief appearance in the first episode of "Black Mirror." He gained wider recognition with a supporting role in the teen drama "My Mad Fat Diary" and a starring role in the comedy sitcom "Toast of London."

Breakthrough and Notable Roles

In 2015, Latif landed a supporting role in "Ordinary Lies" and made his feature film debut in "The Man Who Knew Infinity." He portrayed Dr. Jekyll in "Penny Dreadful" and gained international fame with his dual role as Lt. Ash Tyler and the Klingon warrior Voq in "Star Trek: Discovery."
