Biography of Sherri Shepherd
Sherri Shepherd is an American comedic actress and television host. She is one of the five co-hosts of the daytime talk show 'The View' on ABC. As an actress, Sherri is known for her role in the comedy series 'Less Than Perfect' and her supporting role in the film 'Precious', which was nominated for six Academy Awards in 2009.

Early Life
Sherri was born on April 22, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, to Lawrence and LaVerne Shepherd. She grew up as the oldest of three sisters. Her father worked as a manager in a restaurant, while her mother worked as a house cleaner. The family belongs to the Jehovah's Witnesses religious denomination. When Sherri turned 11, the family moved to Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago that was predominantly white. She attended Winston Churchill Elementary School, Eisenhower Junior High School, and graduated from Hoffman Estates High School.

Early Career
In the early 90s, Sherri Shepherd worked as a secretary in Beverly Hills. During the day, she worked as a secretary, and in the evenings, she performed in stand-up comedy shows. In 1995, Sherri made a drastic change in her life. She quit her secretarial job and just 12 days later, held her first screenplay in her hands. The series she got a role in was called 'Cleghorne', but it was canceled after its first season. With no income, Sherri had to return to a law firm for three years, occasionally appearing on TV in minor roles. In 1997, Sherri started acting again. She played a role in the sitcom 'Suddenly Susan', made guest appearances in the popular show 'Friends', appeared in several episodes of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', and regularly performed on 'The Jamie Foxx Show'.
The View and Film Roles
Prior to becoming a co-host on 'The View', Sherri's most notable role was as Ramona Platt in the comedy series 'Less Than Perfect', which aired from 2002 to 2006. Sherri has also had several roles in films, including Sydney in the comedy 'Guess Who', Ida in 'Beauty Shop' starring Queen Latifah, and a cashier in the thriller 'Cellular' with Kim Basinger and Jason Statham. In 2007, she appeared in the golf-themed comedy film 'Who's Your Caddy?', which received negative reviews and was listed as one of the worst films on the Internet Movie Database. She also voiced the character Florrie the lioness in the animated film 'Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa'. Sherri's most recent film role was in the drama 'Precious', based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire.
Current Work and Personal Life
Sherri continues to perform in stand-up comedy shows in Los Angeles, although she resides in New York. She is a frequent guest on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' and also appears in the series '30 Rock' as Angie Jordan. Sherri stands at 5'1" tall. From 2001 to 2006, she was married to actor Jeff Tarpley, but they divorced after Sherri discovered he had been having an affair. This inspired her own sitcom called 'Sherri'. In 2005, Sherri gave birth to her son Jeffrey on her own birthday, April 22. He was born prematurely and spent several months in a neonatal center before Sherri could take him home. After her divorce, Sherri publicly announced her decision to remain celibate until she remarries.
