Biography of Shiri Appleby

Shiri Freda Appleby was an American actress, best known for her leading role as Liz Parker in the television series "Roswell". She was born on December 7, 1978, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Shiri is the daughter of Dina, an Israeli school teacher, and Jerry Appleby, an American telecommunications executive. She grew up in Calabasas, a city near Los Angeles, with her younger brother Evan. In her maternal lineage, Appleby is descended from Sephardic Jews, a sub-ethnic group of Moroccan Jews. The name "Shiri" translates from Hebrew as "my song" or simply "song".

Appleby attended Calabasas High School and graduated in 1997. She then pursued a degree in English literature at the University of Southern California, where she also studied theater arts.

Acting Career

Appleby began her acting career at the age of four, appearing in commercials for various products, including "Cheerios" and "M&M's". She made her first commercial appearance in a spot for "Raisin Bran", although it was never aired. She guest-starred in numerous television shows, including "Thirtysomething" (1987), "Doogie Howser, M.D." (1989), "ER" (1994), "Baywatch" (1989), "Xena: Warrior Princess" (1995), "7th Heaven" (1996), and "Beverly Hills, 90210" (1990).

Appleby auditioned for the roles of Isabel and Maria in the television series "Roswell" before landing the lead role of Liz Parker. In "7th Heaven", she played a member of a gang who hid a weapon under her little brother's mattress. She also appeared in music videos for "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi and "I Don't Want To Be" by Gavin DeGraw.

She also starred in the short film "Carjacking" alongside Geoff Stults, her co-star from "7th Heaven". In 2007, Appleby appeared in the comedy film "What Love Is" alongside actors such as Cuba Gooding Jr., Matthew Lillard, and Anne Heche. She also joined the cast of the action short film "Love Like Wind".

In the same year, Appleby portrayed the press secretary of Congressman Charlie Wilson in the biographical film "Charlie Wilson's War" directed by Mike Nichols, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

In 2008, Appleby was set to appear in the final season of the popular TV series "ER" as a young specialist named Dr. Daria Wade. She also starred in the horror miniseries "Fear Itself" and the series "Welcome to the Captain".

Regarding her acting career, Appleby said, "I really love performing and going on auditions. I love being under pressure and still being able to perform. I like the fact that I have to figure things out in different situations. I love the expression. That's really what turns me on."
