Early Life

Born into a prominent family in the 19th century, the renowned Karaite philanthropist and civic leader left an indelible mark on his community.

Civic Leadership in Eupatoria

As the mayor of Eupatoria in the 1820s, he played a pivotal role in the city's administration. His tenure is remembered for his gracious reception of the acclaimed poet Adam Mickiewicz in 1825.

Spiritual Authority as Haham

In 1837 (or 1839, according to some sources), he was appointed as the first Crimean Haham, the highest spiritual authority among the Karaites. In this esteemed role, he guided and inspired his community, fostering its spiritual and cultural advancement.
