Biography of Simon Desthieux

Simon Desthieux is a French biathlete who has achieved notable success in his career. He made his debut at the Junior World Championships in 2010 in Torsby, where he finished 42nd in the sprint, 15th in the pursuit, and won a silver medal in the relay alongside Antonin Guigonnat and Florent Claude.

In the following year, at the Junior World Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave, Desthieux won the individual race, finished 7th in the sprint, 5th in the pursuit, and placed 5th in the relay with Florent Claude, Baptiste Jouty, and Ludwig Ehrhart.

Desthieux continued to impress at the 2011 European Championships in Ridnaun, where he won silver in the individual race, finished 5th in the sprint, 11th in the pursuit, and won a silver medal in the mixed relay with Flori Venneron, Enora Latuilliere, and Valentin Gairaud.

At the 2012 European Championships in Brezno-Osrblie, Desthieux finished 13th in the sprint, 5th in the individual race and pursuit, and 7th in the relay. He also competed at the Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti, where he won bronze in the sprint, finished 10th in the pursuit, 9th in the individual race, and 4th in the relay.

Desthieux's first international race among men was in the IBU Cup individual race in Nove Mesto na Morave, where he finished 65th. He then achieved his first World Cup points by finishing 33rd in the sprint in Altenberg. At the end of the season, he achieved his best result in the IBU Cup, finishing 7th in the sprint in Annecy.

Since the 2012/2013 season, Desthieux has been competing in the World Cup. In his fourth race, the sprint in Hochfilzen, he finished 37th and earned his first World Cup points. His best result came in the sprint at the Oberhof stage, where he finished 19th. He ended the season in 57th place in the overall World Cup standings, with 87 points.

Before the official start of the 2013/2014 season, Desthieux competed in major test races in Sjusjoen, Norway. He finished 3rd in the sprint, behind Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Emil Hegle Svendsen, and then placed 6th in the mass start. He defeated renowned biathletes such as Tarjei Boe and Martin Fourcade. In the 2013/2014 season, he became a regular member of the French team and competed in all the races. His best result was 4th place in the season-ending mass start in Holmenkollen. He finished the season in 21st place overall, with 385 points.
