Early Life and Career

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, on April 18, 1981, Simon Greul is a professional tennis player known for his strong serve and two-handed backhand. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch (185 cm) and weighing 176 pounds (80 kg), he began playing tennis at the age of six.

Influenced by his idol Boris Becker, Greul trained at the First Line Tennis Academy in Stuttgart for over 15 years. After graduating from high school, he served in the German military for two months before receiving an exemption as a promising athlete.

Professional Tennis Career

Greul turned professional in 2000 and has a career prize money of $1,269,640. His highest ATP ranking was 55th in March 2010, while he currently stands at 155th.

Greul has competed in all four Grand Slam tournaments. He has consistently reached the first round of the Australian Open (2007, 2010, 2011) and the French Open (2008, 2009, 2010). At Wimbledon and the US Open in 2009, he advanced to the second round, including an encounter with Roger Federer at Wimbledon.

Breakthrough and Success

Greul's major breakthrough came in 2006 at the Miami Masters. After qualifying for the main draw, he defeated Paradorn Srichapan, Dominik Hrbaty, and Tim Henman. He eventually lost in the fourth round to Andy Roddick.

He reached the semifinals of the BCR Romania Open in Bucharest the same year. Greul ended the season ranked 59th in the world.

Davis Cup and Recent Years

In March 2010, Greul earned a spot on the German Davis Cup team. His victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was Germany's only triumph in the competition.

In 2010, he reached the third round of the BNP Paribas Open and the quarterfinals of the Ordina Open and Mercedes Cup. Despite some setbacks in subsequent years, Greul continues to compete on the ATP Tour.

Personal Life

Outside of tennis, Greul is an avid fan of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team and Dirk Nowitzki. He also supports the VfB Stuttgart soccer club. In interviews, he has expressed that he would have pursued soccer if he had not played tennis.
