Early Life and Education
Simon McKeon was born in 1955. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in 1976 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1978, both from the University of Melbourne.
Legal and Financial Career
McKeon practiced law in Sydney with Blake Dawson Waldron before taking a position at Macquarie Bank. In 1994, he became the bank's Executive Chairman. From 2006 to 2009, McKeon also served as Chairman of MYOB LTD, a specialized software developer.
Philanthropic and Advocacy Work
McKeon is a strong supporter of numerous charitable organizations. He is Chairman of B4MD, a movement that promotes business engagement with developing nations. He is also on the board of VisionFund International, a subsidiary of World Vision. Additionally, McKeon chairs the Australian chapter of the Global Poverty Project and is a director of Red Dust Role Models Ltd.
Climate Change Advocacy
McKeon has expressed his concern about climate change, calling for it to be a "political and community agenda item." While acknowledging that some questions remain unanswered, he believes it is essential to act cautiously and do everything possible to ensure a sustainable future.
Sailing Career
McKeon was a prominent figure in the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy, also known as the Little Americas Cup. He served as a helmsman in races from 1985 to 1996. Along with Tim Daddo, McKeon set a world sailing speed record of 46.52 knots in 1993, which remained unbroken for over a decade.
