Simona Stefanelli was born in Rome, Italy, and began her acting career at the tender age of 14 with a role in the film "La Moglie Giapponese" (1968). She gradually gained recognition in Italian cinema, appearing in supporting roles in several notable projects.

International Stardom

Stefanelli's breakthrough came in 1972 when she landed the iconic role of Apollonia Vitelli Corleone, Michael Corleone's first wife, in Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece "The Godfather." Despite being only 17 years old during filming, Stefanelli's portrayal of Apollonia's innocence and vulnerability left a lasting impression on audiences.

Personal Life and Family

In 1973, Stefanelli married actor and director Michele Placido. Together, they collaborated on several films, including the erotic drama "Peccati in Famiglia" (1975). The couple had three children: Michelangelo, Violante, and Brenno. Violante and Brenno (who adopted the stage name Marco Brenno) both became successful actors. Stefanelli and Placido divorced in 1994.
