Prominent Macedonian Fighter

Simos Ioannidis, an ardent Macedonian fighter, was born in the village of Alona (formerly known as Armensko), now within the boundaries of Florina.

Early Career

Initially serving as adjutant to the renowned Macedonian leader Kottas (Konstantinos) Christou, Simos Ioannidis returned to Macedonia and collaborated with Efthymios Kaoudis, operating in the Varvounta region.

Participation in the Sklithro Operation

In 1904, Ioannidis played a crucial role in the Sklithro (Zielnica) operation, where 19 Bulgarian militants were eliminated. Subsequently, he joined forces with G. Tsongos in the regions of Florina and Pelagonia.

Leadership of Own Band

After 1906, Simos Ioannidis formed and led his own band, operating in collaboration with Macedonian fighter Pavlos Rakovitis. This band targeted the eastern and southern slopes of Mount Vernon until 1908.

Legacy and Honor

In recognition of his contributions, the village of Motesnitsa was renamed Simos (Ioannidis) in his honor in 1957.
