Biography of Sita Murt
Sita Murt, a Catalan fashion designer and businesswoman, quickly gained popularity with her label 'Sita Murt' by satisfying the demand of young and vibrant women, focusing on soft and sensual fabrics. Her designs are presented in the market by the company 'Esteve Aguilera SA', which annually produces over 200,000 sweaters and other clothing items, serving more than 1900 retail locations, including department stores worldwide, such as Moscow's TSUM. Some of Murt's designs were featured in Woody Allen's film 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona'.
Early Life and Education
Sita Murt was born in 1946 into a family of a leather factory owner in Igualada. At a young age, she collected leather scraps at her family's factory and tried to use them to create new clothing. Murt studied textile design at the Sarrià School of Textile Design under the guidance of Ramón Folch.
Marriage and Career
She married Toni Esteve Enrich, a manager in the company 'Esteve Aguilera', which was founded in 1924 and registered as a limited liability company (SA) in 1965. After her children grew up, Murt began pursuing her career as a fashion designer, primarily working with knitted shirts and t-shirts. After the death of her husband Toni in 1984, Sita's life changed dramatically. Her father-in-law decided to appoint her as the manager of 'Esteve Aguilera' despite some opposition from those who were unhappy with a young woman holding such an important position. Sita worked hard, and today her company serves as an excellent example for other Catalan firms.
Company Expansion and Achievements
Since 1989, the company has participated in many fashion shows to showcase their new collections in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Copenhagen, Berlin, New York, Paris, and more. The company rebranded from 'Esteve' to 'Sita Murt' and opened several stores in Igualada. Sita's direct descendants, Toni, Iago, Isabel, and Albert, have held various positions within the company. In 2007, the company hired a new CEO, Jordi Balsells, a former sales manager of 'Desigual'. In 2008, they launched a new line of fashion accessories, and in 2010, a new footwear collection.
Recognition and Awards
Sita Murt's clothing caters primarily to women who love to travel, have an interest in the arts, engage in sports, and reject stereotypes. She refuses to exploit female sexuality excessively but emphasizes femininity and authenticity, highlighting the beauty of the female figure. In 2002, Sita received the 'Premio al Mérito Exportador' award from the Prince of Asturias. In 2008, she won the 'Barcelona es moda' prize, and in 2010, she was honored with the 'Calderera de honor de Montmaneu' award by the municipality of Montmaneu.
