Sonia Landver: Life and Career

Early Life and Education

Sonia Landver was born on October 28, 1949, in Leningrad, Russia. In 1979, she and her family immigrated to Israel. Landver holds a Master's degree in psychology, which she obtained in 1983.

Municipal and Corporate Roles

Prior to entering politics, Landver served on the Ashdod City Council. She also held the position of Director of the Ashdod Development Company.

Community Activism

Landver has been a prominent advocate for Russian-speaking immigrants in Israel. From 1993 to 2003, she led the All-Israel Association of Russian-Speaking Repatriants. Since 2003, she has chaired the Federation of Russian-Speaking Israelis.

Political Career

Early Positions


Landver began her political career in 1996 when she was elected to the 14th Knesset as a member of the Labor Party. She continued to serve in the 16th Knesset (for a partial term).

Transition to Yisrael Beiteinu

Before the 2006 elections, Landver switched to the Yisrael Beiteinu party. She was elected to the 17th and 18th Knessets under its banner.

Minister of Immigrant Absorption

From 2009 to 2015, Landver served as the Minister of Immigrant Absorption. During her tenure, she focused on integrating Russian-speaking immigrants into Israeli society.

Other Roles

Landver has also held several other positions within the party and the government. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Agency and the Chairman of the Belarusian-Israeli Friendship Society.
