Solvita Āboltiņa: A Latvian Diplomat and Politician
Early Life and EducationSolvita Āboltiņa was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1963 as Solvita Martinov. In 1981, she graduated from the 5th Riga Secondary School. She then pursued a law degree at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, graduating in 1986.
Diplomatic Career
After Latvia regained its independence, Āboltiņa joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1995, she became the head of the consular department.
Political Journey
In 2008, Āboltiņa became the chairwoman of the New Era party. From 2004 to 2006, she served as the Speaker of the 9th Saeima (Parliament of Latvia) and the Minister of Justice. She also held the position of deputy in the 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Saeima.
In 2017, Āboltiņa was expelled from the Unity party for violating internal party discipline.
Return to Diplomacy
Since 2018, Āboltiņa has served as the Latvian Ambassador to Italy.Personal Life
