Biography of Sofia Vasilyeva

Sofia Vladimirovna Vasilyeva was born on October 22, 1992, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the age of three, her parents encouraged her to pursue ballet, piano, and singing. She became a dancer in the theatrical production "Celtic Dances" at the Creative Dance School in Tucson, as well as in "Alice in Wonderland," "The Nutcracker," and "Pinocchio" at the Eugene Ballet School in Oregon.

Early Recognition

At the age of seven, Sofia was noticed by the International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA) in New York City, where she won the title of Child Actress and Child Model of the Year 2000. Shortly after, she landed the role of Elena, the granddaughter of a retired Russian general, in an episode of the CBS television series "The Agency" (2001-2003).

Rise to Fame

When she was nine years old, Sofia portrayed Cindy Brady in the television comedy "The Brady Bunch in the White House" (2002) alongside Shelley Long and Gary Cole. She also played the role of a little girl named Gina Russell in the horror film "Freaky Flickers" (2003) with Malcolm McDowell, Megan Gallagher, and Patricia McCormack, who had previously starred in the Academy Award-nominated thriller "The Bad Seed."

At the ages of nine and ten, Sofia portrayed the book character Eloise in two TV movies, "Eloise at the Plaza" and "Eloise at Christmastime," directed by Kevin Lima, with Julie Andrews as the nanny.

Television Success

At the age of eleven, Sofia began playing the role of Ariel Dubois in the television series "Medium." She represented the family film genre at the 19th Genesis Awards ceremony hosted by the Humane Society in 2005. Sofia was also nominated for the SyFy Portal Genre Award for Best Young Actress/Actor for her role in "Medium" in 2005, but lost to Daniel Radcliffe. However, she won the Young Artist Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Drama Series for the same role in 2006.

Current Projects

Sofia has also appeared in other films such as "Day Zero" with Elijah Wood, "Hurt" as Sarah, and is currently working on the film adaptation of Jodi Picoult's novel "My Sister's Keeper." The film stars Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric, Alec Baldwin, and Joan Cusack, and was directed by Nick Cassavetes. Sofia shaved her head for the role of Kate Fitzgerald. The film is currently in post-production.

Personal Life and Talents

Sofia is a cosmopolitan individual who speaks Russian and French fluently and travels the world. By the age of six, she had lived in four different states and has visited Hawaii, Paris, Moscow, Rome, Vienna, Toronto, and even Siberia. Among her other talents, Sofia is particularly noted for her interest in gymnastics, achieving the "silver level" in the American Gifted Program after only a few months of training. She also loves her cat, enjoys ice skating, rollerblading, swimming, diving, biking, and playing outdoors with her friends.
