Biography of Julie Kavner

Early Life

Julie Kavner is an American actress, best known for her roles as Brenda Morgenstern in the 1970s American sitcom "Rhoda" and the voice of Marge Simpson in the animated series "The Simpsons." She was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Southern California, which often surprises people who are used to seeing her as the New Yorker Brenda Morgenstern and hearing her scratchy, slightly nasal voice, which is typical of East Coast residents. Kavner attended the prestigious Beverly Hills High School and graduated with honors from the State University of San Diego, where she studied theater arts.

Acting Career

After the end of "Rhoda," Kavner began acting in films. In 1992, she played the lead role in the comedy-drama "This is My Life," written by Nora Ephron. It was expected that the role would bring her widespread popularity, but the film received mixed reviews and did not succeed at the box office. Following this disappointment, Kavner transitioned to supporting roles and voice acting. In the television series "The Simpsons," she voices Marge Simpson, Selma Bouvier, Patty Bouvier, Jacqueline Bouvier, and Gladys Bouvier. Kavner also appeared in several Woody Allen films, including "Hannah and Her Sisters" and "Deconstructing Harry," as well as the based-on-a-true-story film "Awakenings," directed by Penny Marshall, alongside Robin Williams and Robert De Niro.

Voice Acting

In the Disney animated film "The Lion King 1½," Kavner provided the voice for Timon's mother.

Overall, Julie Kavner's versatile acting career has spanned both television and film, with her most iconic role being that of Marge Simpson in "The Simpsons."
