Biography of Sophie B. Hawkins
Sophie Ballantine Hawkins, an American singer, composer, musician, and painter, was born on November 1, 1967, in Manhattan, New York City, USA. She is best known for her hit songs "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover," "Right Beside You," and "As I Lay Me Down."

Early Career and Commercial Success
Sophie's debut album, "Tongues and Tails," was released in 1992 and achieved commercial success worldwide. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1993. The single "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" reached the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

In 1994, she released her second album, "Whaler," which also featured a hit song, "As I Lay Me Down," that reached the top 10.

The Cream Will Rise and Timbre
In 1998, a documentary film titled "The Cream Will Rise," directed by Gigi Gaston, was compiled from footage of Sophie's tours and intense confrontations with her family, including her mother and brother. Throughout the film, Hawkins' music and riffs are heard.
Her album "Timbre" in 1999 was reissued as a bonus disc on Sophie's label, Trumpet Swan Productions. In addition to previous tracks, the album included several new songs, demos, remixes, and music videos.
Independent Releases and Activism
Her first independently recorded and released album, "Wilderness," was released in 2004. In August 2007, Hawkins headlined the first Los Angeles Women's Music Festival in support of two current programs - animal rescue support and promoting and supporting women musicians. She is known to be a staunch vegetarian and has long been an advocate for animal rights.
In February 2008, Sophie re-recorded her hit song "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" as "Damn We Wish You Were President" to support presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Hawkins wrote, "Hillary Clinton's accomplishments come from her heart. She has initiated many positive changes for families, children, crime victims, and the environment - she fights for the progressive advancement of America and its working people."
Acting and Continued Musical Exploration
In 2001, Sophie appeared as Lucy Spatt in Gigi Gaston's crime drama film "The Center of the World," and in 2005, she composed for the American comedy film "The Chumscrubber." It seems that even after a long musical career, the singer is still searching for herself and trying to find her own style that accurately reflects her inner world.
