Biography of Sophie Thomlinson
Sophie Thomlinson is a little British girl who was born with cerebral palsy and is unable to walk. Her parents are actively raising money for a spinal surgery that could help her, as the national health insurance system is unwilling to cover the costs. Sophie, who is only two years old, lives with her family in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester. Despite her condition, Sophie has yet to take her first steps. However, this does not mean that she will never be able to walk. Sophie will be able to walk after undergoing the spinal surgery. Unfortunately, the operation is quite expensive, costing around £25,000, and it is very difficult for her family to afford it. At the same time, the NHS insurance system refuses to finance the surgery for Sophie, which frustrates her family. Sophie's mother, 40-year-old Allison, a former nurse, says, "When I was told that I needed to pay £25,000, my world just collapsed."
It is especially disheartening for the family to know that last year, a young model named Josie Cunningham received breast augmentation surgery funded by the NHS, while there is no financial support available for Sophie's operation. Allison and her husband, 44-year-old Craig, firmly believe that priorities should be reconsidered in this case. Can breast augmentation for a model really be compared to the ability to walk for a young child? The injustice faced by the Thomlinson family almost made them give up. However, they cannot afford to do so, as they have to prioritize the needs of little Sophie, who requires help. If the government and its healthcare system are unable to assist her, Sophie still has her parents, who will never abandon her in times of need. Additionally, the Thomlinsons have the support of "Tree of Hope," a charitable organization that raises funds to help disabled children. Allison has also created an internet page called "Sophie's Tiny Steps," but unfortunately, they have only managed to raise £1,300 so far. Allison shares that her little girl's greatest joy in life is going for walks, and tears come to their eyes when they realize how long they will have to wait until Sophie can walk on her own. The family dreams of raising the funds for the surgery before Sophie turns three years old.
