Born into the illustrious House of Clermont-Tonnerre, Stanislas Marie Adelaide emerged as a prominent figure during the turbulent era of the French Revolution.

Early Political Career

As a member of the National Constituent Assembly, Clermont-Tonnerre initially represented the aristocratic minority. However, his unwavering commitment to liberty led him to align with the deputies of the Third Estate. His pivotal role in abolishing feudal privileges on the Night of August 4, 1789, earned him immense popularity.

Balancing Monarchy and Freedom
