Biography of Stanislav Chechek

Stanislav Chechek was a Czechoslovak general and a participant in the Russian Civil War. He was born into a forester's family and received his education at a gymnasium in Tabor and a trade school in Prague. In 1911, he started working at the Moscow branch of the company Laurin a Klement. When the First World War broke out, Chechek decided to stay in Russia.

During the war, he joined the Czechoslovak Legion of the Russian Army and commanded a company and later a battalion. On March 31, 1917, he was awarded the Order of St. George, 4th class. In 1917, Chechek participated in the formation of the Czechoslovak Corps. On September 6, 1917, he was appointed as the commander of the 4th Prokop Holý Infantry Regiment. He attended the Congress of Delegates of all parts of the Czechoslovak Corps in Chelyabinsk on May 20, 1918. He became a member of the Military Council, which was formed at that time to coordinate the actions of scattered groups of the Corps and establish communication with local anti-Bolshevik organizations. On May 28, 1918, he opposed the Bolsheviks in Penza and moved his forces to Syzran. He participated in the overthrow of the Soviet regime in Samara on June 8, 1918, and became the commander of the Volga Front of the People's Army.

In October 1918, Chechek traveled to Vladivostok. In September 1920, as part of the Czechoslovak Corps, he was evacuated from Vladivostok to Czechoslovakia. After returning to his homeland, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Czechoslovak Armed Forces. From 1921 to 1923, Chechek studied at the French Military Academy "Ecole superieure de guerre" and attended courses for military aviators in Paris.

In October 1924, he became the head of the military office of President Masaryk and was promoted to the rank of divisional general. From 1926, he led the aviation department of the Ministry of National Defense. In 1928, Chechek was appointed as the commander of the 5th Infantry Division in Ceske Budejovice. He passed away in 1930.
