Early Life and Career
Stanislav Yuryevich Markelov was born in Moscow on May 20, 1974. He graduated from the Moscow State Law Academy in 1996 and became a member of the Interregional Bar Association the following year. In 1997, Markelov gained attention for defending Igor Gubkin and Andrei Sokolov in a case involving the bombing of the Vagankovo Cemetery, an attempt to bomb the Peter I Monument, and other charges.
