After graduating, Mukhin embarked on his professional theater career in 1970, joining the Russian Drama Theater in Mariupol. In 1978, he became a member of the "Molodoy Teatr" ensemble at Lenconcert. It was not until 1989 that he found his artistic home with the Youth Theater on Fontanka.

Throughout his tenure at the Youth Theater, Mukhin's exceptional talent shone through in numerous acclaimed performances. His portrayal of the iconic character Hamlet in Shakespeare's eponymous play is widely regarded as one of his most memorable roles.
