Early Life and Education
Józef Dobrowolski was born to Józef Dobrowolski, a Galician official, and Eugenia Wittich. He completed his secondary education in Lviv and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
Artistic Influences and Travels
From 1908 to 1909, Dobrowolski lived in Paris, followed by a stint in Munich. He returned to Lviv and traveled to Paris again in 1911-1912. During this period, he was heavily influenced by the artistic movements in both cities.
Artistic Style and Subjects
Dobrowolski primarily used watercolors, gouache, and pastels to create landscapes of Lviv and Paris. His works capture the essence of these cities, depicting their historical architecture and bustling streets.
Notable Works
In winter 1914-1915, Dobrowolski published an album of ten color lithographs titled "Lviv." This series showcases his mastery of printmaking and his ability to convey the spirit of his hometown.
