Stanley Kamel was an American actor, best known for his role as Dr. Charles Kroger in the American television series "Monk," which aired for eight seasons from 2001 to 2009.

Early Life and Career

Stanley Kamel was born on January 1, 1943, in South River, New Jersey, USA. He attended Rutgers Preparatory School and began his acting career in off-Broadway productions. Kamel later found success in television, landing the role of Eric Peters #2 in the soap opera "Days of Our Lives," which aired continuously since 1965.

Throughout his thirty-year professional acting career, Kamel appeared as a guest star in over eighty television series. Some notable projects include "Mission: Impossible," where his name did not even appear in the credits, "The Mod Squad" with Michael Cole, "McMillan & Wife" with Rock Hudson, and "Kojak" with Telly Savalas. He portrayed Dean Dinsmore in the series "Charlie's Angels," Charlie in "Mork & Mindy," and was featured in the sitcom "Three's Company."

Kamel also appeared as Mike Solomon in the television series "Cagney & Lacey" alongside Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless. He shone as Sonny Martin in the series "Knight Rider" with David Hasselhoff. Continuing his work in television, Kamel appeared in the family comedy series "Mr. Belvedere," the multi-series detective drama "Matlock," and portrayed Herb Shrubb in the NBC sitcom "The Golden Girls." He was a cast member of the seven-season action series "MacGyver," accepted the role of Bruce Teller in the drama series "Melrose Place," and played Tony Marchette in the internationally renowned teen drama series "Beverly Hills, 90210."

Kamel also made appearances as a doctor in the medical drama series "ER" and was part of the ensemble cast of television series such as "7th Heaven," "NYPD Blue," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Dark Angel," "The Client Is Always Dead," "The West Wing," and "Monk."

Film Career

While predominantly known for his work in television, Kamel also had a presence in film. He appeared in the crime action film "Domino" directed by Tony Scott, starring Keira Knightley and Mickey Rourke. Kamel also portrayed Joseph in David Lynch's mystical detective thriller "Inland Empire" and played the role of Joseph in the comedy film "The Urn."

Personal Life and Death

Sadly, Stanley Kamel was found dead on April 8, 2008, at his home in Hollywood Hills. The police investigator determined that the cause of death for the 65-year-old actor was a heart attack. An episode of "Monk" titled "Mr. Monk Buys a House" was dedicated to Kamel's memory.
