Early Life and Equestrian Beginnings

Stefan Peters was born in Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. At the tender age of seven, he embarked on his equestrian journey, participating in show jumping competitions on weekends. By the age of 15, he had begun competing internationally in Belgium and Denmark.

Equestrian Career: Olympic Aspirations and Success

Early Strides and Olympic Trials

At age 16, Peters received his first horse, Udon, from his father. This horse would accompany him to the 1996 Summer Olympics, where they earned a bronze medal. In 1984, Peters trained in San Diego, California, before returning to Germany to fulfill his military service. He returned to the United States in 1985 with Udon.

U.S. Citizenship and Sponsorship

In 1992, Peters acquired American citizenship, citing the strong sense of patriotism that drew him to the country. That same year, he opened his own barn and secured sponsorship from Lilo Kommerstad, who purchased Udon and became a part-owner of Peters' training barn, Arroyo Del Mar, in 2012.
