Early Life and Career
Stepan Vasilyevich Averyanov was born on May 25, 1909, in the village of Panikovec, Russia. He began working at the age of nine as a shepherd and later as a laborer in the port of Novorossiysk. In 1928, he returned home and became actively involved in organizing a collective farm, earning recognition for his hard work.
Military Service
Averyanov joined the Red Army in 1931 and served as a sniper-reconnaissance specialist during the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. After the war, he was demobilized but was recalled to the front in 1941. His unit was encircled in August 1941, and Averyanov, wounded and concussed, was captured by the Germans and sent to a concentration camp. He escaped and joined the partisan unit led by Danchenko.
World War II Heroism
In November 1943, the partisan unit was integrated into the Red Army, and Averyanov became a machine gunner. As a junior sergeant in the 1320th Rifle Regiment, he distinguished himself in the battle to defeat the encircled enemy forces near Podrechie, Belarus, on June 28, 1944. He eliminated dozens of enemy soldiers and captured nine others.
Post-War Life
After the war, Averyanov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on March 24, 1945. He was demobilized and returned to his collective farm. From 1952 to 1966, he worked at a factory in the city of Vidnoe. Averyanov passed away on September 6, 1970.
