Biography of Stepan Demirchyan

Stepan Demirchyan, an Armenian politician, is the son of Karen Demirchyan, who was assassinated on October 27, 1999. He attended the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1976 to 1981, where he studied electrical engineering. He obtained a candidate of technical sciences degree.

Early Career

From 1981 to 1986, Demirchyan worked at the PO "Armelectrodvigatel," a ministry of the electrical engineering industry of the USSR. During this time, he held various positions, including master, senior master, inspector-tester, station manager, deputy chief, and chief of the assembly department. From 1984 to 1986, he served as the deputy chief engineer of the PO "Armelectrodvigatel."

Directorship and Political Career

From 1986 to 1988, Demirchyan was the chief engineer and acting director of a newly constructed plant for programmable command devices under the Ministry of Instrumentation, Automation, and Control Systems of the USSR. He then went on to become the general director of the PO "Mars" from 1988 to 2003.

In 2003, Demirchyan ran as a candidate for the presidency of Armenia. He served as a member of parliament from 2003 to 2007 and became the chairman of the Armenian People's Party (NPA).

Demirchyan is married and has three children.
