Early Life and Military Career

Stepan Semenovich Gaidarenko was born into a working-class family and graduated from secondary school and a workers' faculty. He joined the Red Army in 1929 and graduated from the Military Pilots School in 1931. A member of the Communist Party since 1931, he commanded a bomber squadron.

Awards and Recognition

In 1936, Gaidarenko received the Order of "Badge of Honor" for his exceptional performance in combat and political training, as well as his mastery of new technologies. His illustrious military career was marked by numerous awards, including the Order of Lenin, Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree, Order of the Red Star, and the Medal "For Distinguished Labor."

National Liberation War in China

Gaidarenko played an active role in the National Liberation War in China from May to August 1938. During his 16 combat missions flying the SB bomber, he engaged and shot down a Japanese fighter at an altitude of 2000 meters. His bravery and achievements earned him the out-of-turn promotion to the rank of Major upon his return from China.

Hero of the Soviet Union

On February 22, 1939, Major Gaidarenko was bestowed the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the prestigious "Gold Star" Medal, number 113, for his exceptional service. Post-war, he served as an inspector for the Main Flying Inspection Service and later as a Pilot-Inspector for an aviation division.

Great Patriotic War and Later Life

Gaidarenko served in the Great Patriotic War until he was discharged from active military service due to illness in 1946. He passed away in Moscow and was laid to rest there, leaving behind a legacy of courage and unwavering dedication to his country.
