Early Life and Education
Andriy Sadovyi was born in 1948 in Lviv, Ukraine. After completing his secondary education, he pursued a degree in journalism at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (1976-1981). Later, in 2010, he earned an additional degree in international law and business from the same university.
Journalistic Career
Sadovyi's journalistic career commenced in 1981 when he served as a correspondent for the "Leninskaya Zarya" district newspaper. He held various editorial positions at "Kamenyar" publishing house before becoming the head of the propaganda, culture, literature, and art department of the "Leninskaya Molodyozh" newspaper in 1986. From 1991 to 2006, he held the positions of editor-in-chief of the "Vysokyi Zamok" newspaper, the weekly "Lvivska Reklama," and chairman of the board of the "Vysokyi Zamok" publishing house.
Political Career
Sadovyi entered politics in 1994 when he was elected to the Lviv Regional Council. He was re-elected in 2006. In 2002, he unsuccessfully ran for the Ukrainian parliament as an independent candidate. In 2006, he was elected to the 5th Ukrainian parliament as a member of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc. He later resigned from parliament in 2007. In November 2007, he was elected to the 6th Ukrainian parliament, where he served on the Committee on European Integration and chaired the Sub-Committee on Political Dialogue, Inter-Human Relations, and Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.
Personal Life
Sadovyi's father, Volodymyr, was an accountant, while his mother, Anna, was a worker. His wife, Natalia Balyuk, is also a journalist and has held the positions of editor-in-chief of "Vysokyi Zamok" and chairman of its publishing house. They have two daughters, Ulyana (born 1982) and Yulia (born 1995).
