Early Life and EducationStephanie Cox (née Lopez) was born on April 3, 1986, in Los Gatos, California. She grew up in Elk Grove, where she attended local high school and excelled in soccer. Her exceptional athletic abilities made her a standout player, leading Elk Grove to success in championships.
After graduating high school, Cox enrolled at the University of Portland. As a member of the soccer team, she contributed significantly to their 2005 NCAA Championship appearance. During her collegiate career, she also participated in the Algarve Cup.
International Debut and Career
While still in college, Cox began competing internationally. In 2006, she captained the United States U-20 team at the Women's World Championship. In 2007, she joined the national team and earned recognition as the Oregon Amateur Athlete of the Year.
Olympic Journey
Following her graduation in 2007, Cox pursued a professional soccer career. In December of that year, she married baseball player Bryan Cox, taking on his surname. In 2008, she was selected to the U.S. Olympic team for the Beijing Olympics. Cox played alongside renowned players like Nicole Barnhart, Shannon Boxx, Angela Hucles, and Carli Lloyd.
