Biography of Stefanie Graf

Stefanie Graf is an Austrian track and field athlete who specializes in middle-distance running. She is a silver medalist in the Olympic Games and World Championships.

Olympic Success and National Record

Stefanie Graf won the silver medal in the 800-meter race at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the World Championships in Athletics in Edmonton in 2001. In both competitions, she was defeated by the famous Mozambican runner Maria Mutola, who won the gold medal. Graf's time of 1:56.64 in Sydney is still the national record of Austria in the 800-meter distance.

Other Distances and Retirement

Aside from the 800 meters, Stefanie Graf also competed in the 200, 400, and 1500-meter races, but did not achieve significant success in these distances. She decided to retire from athletics in 2003.

Awards and Recognition

In 2000 and 2001, Graf was named the Athlete of the Year in Austria. In 2001, she received the title of the Best European Female Athlete.
