Biography of Steve Blank
Steve Blank is an American entrepreneur and scientist, known for his role as an organizer and investor in a number of successful startup projects. He was born in a family of immigrants who managed a grocery store in the Lower East Side of New York. Steve was raised by his mother along with his older sister, as his father left when he was six years old. Despite his parents not having attended college, they were determined to provide Steve with a good education. He managed to obtain a scholarship from Michigan State University, but after one semester, he decided to leave and pursue other interests.

Early Career
After hitchhiking to Miami, Steve found work at a local international airport where he loaded racehorses onto planes. It was during this time that he became interested in aviation radio electronics. His passion for the field led him to join the US Air Force to gain practical experience. During the Vietnam War, Steve served in Thailand, commanding a group of 15 electronics technicians for a year and a half. After completing his military service, he moved to Palo Alto, California, where he found himself in the midst of the emerging Silicon Valley.

Entrepreneurial Journey
In Silicon Valley, Steve Blank quickly found a job at ESL, a startup project working for the US intelligence community. ESL played a crucial role in helping the US understand various Soviet technological advancements during the Cold War. The founder of the company, Bill Perry, later became the Secretary of Defense. Throughout his career, Steve Blank worked in various high-tech industries, constantly adapting to new challenges.
Lean Startup Movement
In 1996, Steve Blank launched his eighth and final startup, E.piphany, which was acquired by SSA Global Technologies for $329 million in 2005. In the mid-90s, he developed the concept of "Customer Development," a scientific approach to creating and improving projects. This methodology aimed to find a balance between product development and establishing strong relationships with customers. The principles of "Customer Development" formed the foundation of the Lean Startup Movement, popularized by one of Steve Blank's students, Eric Ries.
Current Work
Currently, Steve Blank teaches aspiring entrepreneurs how to apply the "Customer Development" methodology and scientific techniques to their own businesses. He published his first book, "The Four Steps to the Epiphany: Successful Strategies for Products that Win," in 2005, which is considered an essential resource on "Customer Development." In 2010, he released his second book, "Not All Who Wander Are Lost," in which he shares personal stories and experiences from his entrepreneurial journey.
