Early Life and Career
Born into a Croatian family in Zagreb, Zlatko Čajkovski began his football career with local clubs, including Concordia, Ličanin, and Građanski. In 1945, he joined the Yugoslav People's Army Club and a year later moved to the prestigious Partizan Belgrade, where he remained for over a decade.
Partizan Glory
During his 13 years at Partizan, Čajkovski established himself as one of the club's all-time greats. He played in 468 matches and scored an astonishing 403 goals, helping the team win two Yugoslav Championships (1946–1947, 1948–1949) and four Yugoslav Cups (1947, 1952, 1954, 1957). In 1995, he was named Partizan's Best Player of All Time.
International Legacy
Čajkovski made his international debut for Yugoslavia in 1946, making 63 appearances and scoring 38 goals over the next decade. He remains Yugoslavia's all-time leading scorer. He represented his country at two World Cups (1950, 1954) and two Olympics (1948, 1952), winning two silver medals.
Post-Retirement Years
After retiring from football in 1959, Čajkovski briefly coached Partizan Belgrade. He later worked as a sports journalist and football commentator. He passed away in 1998, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most prolific and decorated players in Yugoslav football history.
