Early Career and Success at Beşiktaş

Beginning his footballing journey as a goalkeeper, Şükrü Gülesin quickly transitioned to the forward position in his youth club. In 1940, he joined Beşiktaş, marking the beginning of a decade-long stint with the club.

Durante his time at Beşiktaş, Gülesin helped the team win six Istanbul Championships and two Istanbul Cups. He became renowned for his prolific goal-scoring in major Turkish derbies, netting 13 times against Galatasaray and nine times against Fenerbahçe.

Stint in Italy and Return to Turkey

In 1950, Gülesin moved to Italian club Lazio. However, his stay was short-lived due to a conflict with coach Mario Sperone. After a loan spell at Palermo, where he became the club's top scorer, Gülesin returned to Lazio and once again became the club's leading goalscorer.

Gülesin's time in Italy was marked by his extravagant lifestyle, including heavy alcohol consumption. He also had a reputation for a fiery temper, resulting in frequent altercations on and off the pitch.

After leaving Lazio, Gülesin returned to Palermo briefly before moving back to Turkey. He joined Galatasaray, where he ended his playing career.

Post-Retirement Career and Legacy

Following his retirement, Gülesin served on the National Team's technical committee and in the administration of Beşiktaş. He also briefly worked in sports journalism.

Gülesin passed away from a heart attack on July 10, 1977. He left a lasting legacy as a prolific goal-scorer and a controversial figure known for his flamboyant lifestyle and volatile temper.
