Early Life and Education
Russian statesman Magomed Sulimanov was born on October 21, 1946, in the village of Urakhi, Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. His father, Suleiman Sulimanov, was a World War II veteran and lieutenant in the guard. Young Magomed graduated from the Urakhi Polytechnic Secondary School in 1963 and later earned a degree in physics and mathematics from Dagestan Pedagogical University in 1968.
Military Service
After graduating, Sulimanov served as a teacher and deputy director at Secondary School No. 10 in Izberbash. In 1975, he joined the oil industry in Izberbash and later became secretary of the party committee of the city's Drilling Operations Administration.
In 1979, Sulimanov deployed to Afghanistan as a volunteer, serving as a political officer and later as a commander in the Soviet Union's Airborne Brigade. He played a crucial role in restoring the education system in Afghanistan, serving as an advisor to the Afghan Minister of Education.
Return to Civilian Life
Following his military service, Sulimanov engaged in individual entrepreneurship until 1989. In that year, he was elected First Secretary of the Izberbash City Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
Political Career
In 1993, Sulimanov was appointed Head of the Izberbash City Administration. He served in this position until 1997. Concurrently, from 1995 to 1997, he represented the city as a Delegate to the People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan.
Later Years
Subsequent to his political career, Sulimanov held various positions, including Head of the Izberbash Telecommunications Center and Head of the City Center for Housing Subsidies in Makhachkala. He retired in 2016 and currently resides in Makhachkala.
Awards and Honors
Sulimanov has received numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Merit for the Fatherland (4th class), the Order of Friendship, and the Order of the Red Banner. He is also a Merited Worker of Municipal Service of Dagestan and a First-Class Advisor.
