Education and Early CareerIn 1980, Susan M. Ivey earned her bachelor's degree from Florida State University. Seven years later, she completed her Master's degree from Bellarmine University in 1987.
Leadership Roles at Brown & Williamson
Ivey's successful career in the tobacco industry began at Brown & Williamson in 1981 as a sales representative. She held various sales and marketing management positions at the company, including Brand Manager. In 1999, she returned to Brown & Williamson as Vice President of Marketing and became a member of its board of directors. Ivey's exceptional leadership skills propelled her to the position of President and CEO in January 2001.

In January 2004, the board of directors appointed Ivey as President and CEO of RJ Reynolds, a subsidiary of Brown & Williamson. Her vision and strategic guidance led to the merger of Brown & Williamson and Reynolds American Inc. later that year.
