Biography of Susannah and Inacio Clements and Ribeiro
The British fashion designers, Susannah Clements and Inacio Ribeiro, form a successful and recognizable duo whose style has been highly appreciated for many years. Interestingly, these two individuals are quite different from each other. Clements is dynamic and bold, while Ribeiro is moderate and restrained. Both designers studied at St. Martin's College.
Early Years
Susannah Clements and Inacio Ribeiro, a married couple, first established themselves in Ribeiro's home country of Brazil. They collaborated with fashion houses and began developing their concept for their future label. Later, they relocated to London and created "Clements Ribeiro".
Innovative Designs
The duo of "Clements Ribeiro" became pioneers in using cashmere as a staple material, creating colorful striped fabrics for their designs. Their unique and recognizable signature style is characterized by mixing different fabric textures and decorations, vibrant patterns and stripes, Tibetan lamb adornments, and embroidery. Some dresses feature a combination of plaid wool fabric and cashmere, juxtaposed with delicate chiffon and subtle stripes. In other designs, hidden bundles of unravelled threads can be seen between two layers of chiffon.
Career Highlights
In 2000, the couple took over the French fashion house "Cacharel" and introduced a new line of high-end children's clothing, coinciding with the birth of their own son. The brand gained recognition and praise for its youthful and stylish approach, making their seemingly simple pieces exceptionally fashionable. Susannah and Inacio are closely aligned with the essence of "pret-a-porter" fashion, creating clothing that is comfortable for everyday life.
Their creative direction revitalized public interest in the "Cacharel" Fashion House, through the introduction of new interesting details and clever tricks to transform the models, adding a fresh and youthful touch. In an interview, Ignacio Ribeiro referred to this transformation as "reconstruction".
International Recognition
The designer duo, "Clements Ribeiro", is highly popular worldwide, particularly in the United States, where they have a vast clientele of celebrities such as Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, and Prince, among others.
Recent Years
In 2008, it was announced that designers Inacio Ribeiro and Susannah Clements had moved on from their roles at the "Cacharel" Fashion House.
