However, Toews is most recognized for her role as Alecto Carrow in the sixth installment of the Harry Potter film series, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince".
Theater Career
Toews is primarily known for her work in the theater. She has participated in numerous stage productions, including "Singin' in the Rain" at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, "My Fair Lady" at the Royal Theatre, and Simon Green's "Time Of My Life" at the Bristol Old Vic, one of the oldest theaters in the country. She has also performed in "The Wizard of Oz" at the Birmingham Rep and "Spittin' Distance" at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. Toews has showcased her talents in various roles, such as Ruby at the Piccadilly Theatre, Ada Figgins in Timothy Shida's "Gobson's Voice" at the Watermill Theatre, and Red Riding Hood in Will Tuckett's "Into the Woods" at the Royal Opera House.
Role as Alecto Carrow in Harry Potter
On April 27, 2008, Suzie Toews was cast as Alecto Carrow, one of the Death Eaters, in the Harry Potter film series. Alecto Carrow believed that Lord Voldemort had disappeared for good after the First Wizarding War. However, she managed to avoid Azkaban and later rejoined him after his return. Alecto Carrow was among the Death Eaters who attacked Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during Harry Potter's sixth year. She was present in the Astronomy Tower when Albus Dumbledore was killed. The following year, she became the professor of Muggle Studies, replacing the murdered Professor Burbage. She taught her students that Muggles were inferior beings who should serve true wizards. Alecto, along with her brother Amycus Carrow, who taught Defense Against the Dark Arts, would physically abuse and punish students who disagreed or ignored them, using Unforgivable Curses.
Battle of Hogwarts and Capture
Before the Battle of Hogwarts, Alecto Carrow awaited Harry Potter in the Ravenclaw common room, where one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, the diadem, was hidden. She captured Harry, but was ultimately thwarted by Luna Lovegood. After the battle, she and her brother were imprisoned in Azkaban. In mythology, the name Alecto was associated with one of the Furies, a group of cruel and bloodthirsty creatures.
