Early Life and Military Career

Tajetdin Efendiev was born in the Azerbaijan SSR and enlisted in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in 1940. He became a gunner in a зенитно-артиллерийском полку (anti-aircraft artillery regiment). In 1941, he began training at the 7th Divisional School for Junior Aviation Specialists in Novgorod.

World War II

Upon graduating as a sergeant and стрелок-радист (radio gunner) in August 1941, Efendiev was assigned to the 4th Squadron of the 7th Long-Range Aviation Regiment. He fought primarily on the Leningrad Front, bombing distant enemy targets.

On June 24, 1942, Efendiev participated in a raid on the Finnish port of Kotka. He also bombed Turku and Helsinki. By the summer of 1943, he had completed 65 combat flights and logged 400 hours in the air.

Efendiev played a role in breaking the Siege of Leningrad. In mid-January 1944, his aviation regiment launched continuous airstrikes on enemy positions around Krasnoye Selo, Dudergof, Pushkino, and Krasnogvardeiskoye (Gatchina). As a result of these successful operations, the regiment was awarded the honorific title of 7th Guards Gatchina Regiment.

In total, Efendiev completed over 200 combat flights during World War II.
